Dr. Robin Avelar La Salle

Chief Executive Officer

Robin Avelar La Salle is the CEO and Co-founder of Principal’s Exchange, a state-approved technical assistance organization that has served schools and districts for 19 years. She has been a teacher, administrator and university professor. She earned her Ph.D. in education from Stanford University. Her research interests revolve around issues of educational equity, including the academic achievement of historically underperforming students, the use of data to close the achievement gap, and the relationship between language, literacy and culture. Her career as an “equity warrior” is captured in her book, “Data Strategies to Uncover and Eliminate Hidden Inequities: The Wallpaper Effect” (co-authored with Dr. Ruth Johnson).

Marty Maya

Senior Operations Consultant 

Marty has over 40 years of experience in public education, including serving as Assistant Superintendent at Little Lake City School District. She is a highly regarded educator whose skill set includes strategic planning, team dynamics, plan implementation, monitoring and accountability. Marty provides PE with operations and management support, as well as client outreach. She holds a Master’s Degree in School Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Literature from Cal State University, Los Angeles.

Allyson Gideon

Senior Achievement Specialist 

Allyson has been an educator for over 22 years, as middle school teacher, assistant principal and principal, working in Northern and Southern California. A graduate of UC Berkeley, she holds degrees and credentials in Education and Educational Leadership. Her specialties include facilitating teams, curriculum alignment, mathematics and technology. As Team Captain, Allyson supports a team of Specialists and Coaches.

Danelle Almaraz

Senior Achievement Specialist 

Danelle has been an educator for 20 years, including extensive experience at East Whittier City School District. Earning degrees from Whittier College, Chapman University and Cal State University, San Bernardino, her expertise is in Business Mathematics, Middle School Mathematics and School Administration. She is also an expert in supporting English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities as they access core curriculum, as well as technology to support teaching and learning. As Team Captain, Danelle supports a team of Achievement Specialists and Coaches.

Sarah Mott Gonzales

Achievement Specialist 

A graduate of Yale University and Carleton College, Sarah has 15 years of experience in education. She has been a secondary English teacher, coordinator of the International Baccalaureate Program and high school administrator, in addition to her work with Teach for America. Sarah’s expertise is in the areas of literacy development, English Learners, Students with Disabilities, teaching and learning, professional development, and teacher/administrative coaching. Sarah’s most recent position as administrator was in Lynwood Unified School district where the a-g rate moved from 18% to 53% in 5 years, which afforded her the opportunity to learn the PE system first-hand. She now shares this experience with other districts as part of the PE team. Sarah holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Yale and an Administrative Credential from UCLA.

Scott McGuire

Achievement Specialist 

Scott has been in education for 16 years, following an extensive period working with youth in Recreation and Coaching. Prior to his experience as assistant principal and elementary school principal at Lynwood Unified School District, Scott was an elementary school teacher, Technology Integration Resource teacher and middle school instructional coach. He holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and an Administrative Credential from Cal State University, Dominguez Hills. His areas of expertise include literacy development, English Learners, Students with Disabilities, teaching and learning, technology, professional development and teacher/administrative coaching.

Terry Burge

Achievement Specialist 

With 19 years in education, Terry has spent most of his career in Los Angeles Unified School District. He has been an elementary teacher, literacy coach, intervention coordinator and principal. Terry’s expertise is in literacy, math and English Language Development, project-based learning and brain-based teaching. He earned his Communications degree from Lamar University in Texas and his Master’s degree and credential in Educational Leadership from Cal State University, Los Angeles. Terry’s focus is on teacher and administrative training, with an emphasis on differentiated instruction and scaffolding to promote formal academic language development.

Genny Cadena

Achievement Specialist

A long-time educator in California, Genny has elementary and secondary experience, as well as district office tenure. Her expertise is in English Learners and struggling students, in general. She also brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and principal coach, utilizing a highly effective reflection and inquiry cycle methodology. Genny has worked in many districts, including Los Angeles Unified School District, Little Lake City School District and East Whittier City School District. She holds a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Whittier College and an Administrative Credential from Cal Poly Pomona. Genny’s focus is on improving teaching and leading, as well as the development of equitable systems.

Jeanette Salinas

Achievement Specialist 

Over the past three decades, Jeanette has served as teacher, literacy specialist, instructional coach and principal. Her areas of expertise include curriculum alignment, balanced literacy and instructional design. Jeanette’s experience and enthusiasm fortify her well as she provides teacher and administrator professional development and coaching focused on closing the achievement and opportunity gap. Jeanette has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Cal State University, Fullerton as well as an Administrative Services Credential.

Dr. Ruth Johnson

Senior Data and Equity Consultant

Dr. Johnson is a nationally known expert in the use of data to promote equity. She has over 40 years of experience as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. She is a respected author of several books, including “Data Strategies to Uncover and Eliminate Hidden Inequities: The Wallpaper Effect” (with co-author Dr. Avelar La Salle), and “Using Data to Close the Achievement Gap.” Dr. Johnson provides PE and our schools/districts with technical assistance focused on data and equity. She earned her Ed.D. from Rutgers University and her Master’s degree from William Paterson University..

David La Salle

Technology Director 

David is one of the founding members of Principal’s Exchange, having served as Technology Director for the past 18 years. He holds degrees in Computer Science from National University, and a Master’s in Computers and Technology Leadership from Cal State University, Los Angeles. David supports PE in the integration of technology hardware and software, as well as by providing technical support to PE team members and partner schools.

Sara Shankin

Data and Technology Senior Consultant 

Sara has been in education for over 30 years, serving in various capacities including, Project Analyst, Data Processing Manager and Director of Data Processing, Instructional Technology and Evaluation. Her Business Management degree from University of Phoenix coupled with her extensive technical experience in school districts make her perfectly suited to providing PE with support in collecting, reporting and analyzing data to support achievement.

Kristopher Carbone

Software Developer 

Kris is rare in that he is a credentialed high school teacher with training and experience as a computer programmer. With most of his experience in Los Angeles Unified School District, Kris’s 15-year tenure as a technology educator makes him the perfect candidate for helping PE add a technological support component to our work. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems from Cal State University, Los Angeles.

Administrative Coordinator

Andrea has over 20 years of experience in a variety of industries, including owning several businesses. She provides PE with clerical and technical support, both in back-office operations and on site in school districts.
